How does the coarse bubble diffuser work?

2025 03/03

Working principle and technical characteristics of coarse bubble diffuser
Gas diffusion and bubble distribution
The coarse air diffuser pressurizes the air through a blower and delivers it to the aerator body. The gas is released into the water through a specially designed aperture (usually 2-5mm), forming larger diameter bubbles (about 3-10mm).
Bubbles rapidly rise in the water and are accompanied by intense turbulence, promoting the diffusion of oxygen into the water while enhancing the convective circulation of the mixture.
Oxygen transfer efficiency
Compared with fine bubble diffuser, coarse diffuser has larger bubbles, smaller contact surface area, and relatively lower oxygen transfer efficiency (about 5.5 kgO ₂/kWh), but excellent anti clogging performance, suitable for high suspended solids or oily wastewater scenarios.
Aeration disk/pipe structure
Adopting a disc or tubular structure, the material is mostly ABS, EPDM or 304 stainless steel, with evenly distributed openings on the surface. The aperture is optimized to reduce resistance (resistance ≤ 800mmHg ₂ O under standard operating conditions).
Some models are equipped with automatic check devices to prevent sewage backflow from blocking the aeration holes during shutdown.
Airflow control
By adjusting the air volume (2-5m ³/h for single hole ventilation) and air pressure of the blower to match different water depths (up to 10m) and water quality requirements, the uniformity of bubble distribution is ensured.
Application scenarios and advantages of the coarse bubble
Industrial wastewater treatment: suitable for wastewater containing fibers, oils, or high SS concentrations (such as paper and food processing industries).
River management: Improve black and odorous water bodies by strong aeration and oxygenation, and inhibit the release of phosphorus from sediment.
Aquaculture: Low cost oxygenation solution, easy to maintain and adaptable to high flow demands.
Core advantages
Anti clogging: The large aperture design avoids the deposition of microbial membranes or particulate matter, and has high long-term stability during operation.
Low maintenance cost: No need for frequent cleaning or replacement of membranes, extended operation and maintenance cycle to 3-5 years.
Strong adaptability: It can be flexibly combined into a modular aeration system, matching different tank types and treatment scales.
