The working principle and core mechanism of dissolved air flotation system
Daf system is a water treatment device that achieves solid-liquid or liquid-liquid separation by attaching tiny bubbles to suspended solids in water and floating them to the surface. Its core principle is based on the hydrophilic/hydrophobic characteristics of the surface of suspended solids: hydrophobic particles are easy to attach bubbles directly, while hydrophilic particles can be converted into hydrophobic flocs through coagulant treatment, or use surfactants to form foam to carry impurities and float up1. The equipment generates a large number of fine bubbles (usually with a diameter of 20-100 μ m) through gas dissolution and release systems, making the overall density of impurities lower than that of water, and separating them by buoyancy.
Core advantages and application areas of dissolved air flotation machine
Core advantages
Efficient separation: Compared with suspended solids (such as oil and algae) that are close to water, the separation effect is significant, and the SS removal rate is stable and meets the standard.
Compact and energy-saving: With a compact structure and small footprint, dissolved air flotation can save coagulant usage, and some types do not require chemical agents.
Easy to operate: simple installation and maintenance, high degree of automation control, and low operating costs.
Sludge reduction: high concentration of floating slag, low sludge production, and easy dewatering treatment.
Typical application areas
Wastewater treatment: municipal wastewater, industrial wastewater (papermaking, printing and dyeing, food processing, etc.).
Specific industries: Oil removal from oilfield oily wastewater, separation of suspended solids from mining wastewater, and removal of algae from drinking water.
Solid liquid/liquid-liquid separation: such as recovering useful substances (fibers, oils and fats) from wastewater.
Mainstream equipment structure and development trend
Key components of pressurized dissolved air flotation equipment
Dissolving gas system: Dissolving gas tank (core), air compressor, pressurized water pump, responsible for air dissolution
Air flotation tank: divided into contact zone (bubble impurity adhesion) and separation zone (separation of floating slag and clean water)
Air flotation equipment, with its advantages of efficient separation and flexible operation, has become one of the key technologies in the field of water treatment. Its core lies in breaking through the limitations of traditional precipitation methods through the mechanism of bubble particle adhesion. In the future, with the integration of intelligence and low-carbon technology, it is expected to play a greater role in the deep treatment of industrial wastewater, water environment restoration and other fields.
